Dora the Explorer Cake

I can't believe my sweet princess is turning 3, I swear she should be turning 5 or 13. She loves princesses, but lately she has been getting really into Dora the Explorer. She has gone back ad forth between which one she wanted for a cake. I thought I had persuaded her the best I could into a princess cake, but at last minute she opted for Dora. I was a little bummed, but I actually had way more fun with it than I thought I would, and most importantly, she loves it! We can't wait to celebrate her birthday tomorrow with our Dora Adventure Party!
Since she is all girly girl, I made a strawberry cake covered in strawberry butter cream so it will be all pink when we cut into it. The bottom layer is a dummy cake since our party will be rather small. The flowers, trees, letters, stars, and grass is made out of gum paste and everything else is fondant.

Baby Noah

,cMy friend asked me to make a cake for her good friend who has recently had a baby. She is a zoologist by profession and named her sweet boy Noah. So of course a Noah's Ark cake is the most logical thing I can think of. This is the most detail I've ever put into a cake and it took me about 8-9 hours, but I think it was worth it. I really liked the way it turned out.
The top layer is made out of Rice Cereal and the bottom is a yellow cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The animals are made out of gum paste and everything else is Wilton fondant.

Who ya gonna call?

Not me if you want a Ghostbusters Cake!
I am clearly a novice and this cake is proof. The more cakes I make, the more I wonder why. I'm not having a pity part, but I'm just not that great. I am really great at being creative and coming up with grand ideas, but my execution isn't something to sing about in the streets. I love doing it though so I will continue, practice, and get better.
Anywho, my friend's son had a Ghostbusters themed party. I could've made it all out of fondant, but I wanted to challenge myself and do something different. I wanted the red sign to really pop so I used cherry Jello. I also wanted it to be dark behind the ghost so I used melted chocolate. I didn't leave myself any time for error so this is the result.

Hip, Hippo-ray!!

I've been asking Carson for a few weeks to be thinking about what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday, and every time he responded, "a green hippo." I tried to bring up other suggestions that I thought would be more relevant, but he stuck to his cute, little guns. So here is the Green Hippo Cake. It was really simple and took no more than 1 1/2 hours to decorate. He was so excited about it!

Tea for 2!

For Liv's 2nd birthday we had a tea party, which is perfect for her. She likes to be pretty and eat lots of food! So this is the cake I made for her celebration we had for her when daddy came back into town. The tea set on top is made out of gum paste and painted with food coloring.

Wii

This was the most difficult cake I've made yet. I have to admit it was a lot of fun to make just thinking about how excited the little birthday boy would be when he saw it. It took one sheet cake to make the system and even the remotes.I'd have to say the remote are my favorite.

Carson

Carson is my first born. He loves animals! For his birthday we took him to the zoo and I wanted a cake to contribute to the theme of the day. The elephant's face is just icing, but everything else is made from fondant.

Olivia

This one was for my daughter's first birthday. She is such a beautiful, happy girl and I wanted something to reflect that. She has light blue outfit that I love her in with flowers lining the bottom which is where I got my inspiration.
